First United Methodist Church of Stillwater has been growing in our relationship with our neighbors at the Lily Lake Elementary School. Last fall our pastors met with the assistant principle to talk about ways we might connect more tangibly with the school. With proceeds from the mission committee’s annual Rally Day brunch we were able to purchase gift cards for the 21 classroom teachers as a way of expressing our appreciation for the work they do for the children of our community. We encouraged them to use the gift card to find something special to enrich their classroom. A group of volunteers assisted with the science fair and another group is volunteering in the media center. If you would like to join that group of school volunteers, please speak with Pastor Donna for more information.
We are also in the process of applying to the Minnesota Annual Conference for a Church-School Partnership Grant for the coming school year. And we are planning to invite the Lily Lake principal to speak at the church, so that we can learn more about what’s happening at our local school. We are excited to see how this relationship continues to grow in the future.
